Ever heard of Antioxidants?

If not, then that’s okay. I hadn’t heard of them until the other week either. Not until my Doctor explained how they work to me.

Basically they neutralize free radicals by donating electrons to them and preventing them from causing harm. In other words, they soak up free radicals like a sponge and prevent them from causing harm to our cells.

If untreated, free radicals can damage cellular structures by bonding to these cells causing them to not function as they should. They can be formed via this natural process, but are exacerbated by stress, diet, smoking, alcohol and exposure to the sun.

For best results, stick with 75%, 85% or 90% darkness. Just be warned that the higher the percentage, the less sweet the chocolate is. So if you have a sweet tooth, definitely stick with 75%!

  • Strawberries

This one is quite close to home for me personally, because as a child I used to dream of going strawberry picking in the fields. In fact, one day I would love to be proposed to in a strawberry field.

  • Blueberries

Another fruit I ate way too much of as a child, blueberries have an ORAC score of 14,000.
What does this mean?

Ah yes. Good old goji berries. The food with the highest anti-oxidant capacity of all foods, with an ORAC of 25,000.
